In other political news, It's only his first term but city councilor Eluide Miller has secured the post of Deputy Mayor. It's a huge leap for Miller, given that he was once the mayor's aide before he got elected into office. But now he's an elected councillor and also the mayor's son in law.
And today he was uncontested in his bid for deputy mayor. He told us, it's honor:
Eluide Miller, Deputy Mayor
"Well I feel extremely honoured of course and excited about the road ahead. I feel honoured because I think the vote Today is a clear sign of the confidence that my colleagues have in me and my ability and my drive and my passion that I bring to the work of the council. The vote was unanimous. I got the support of all my colleagues, and so I take this opportunity to thank them once again and of course I take this opportunity to thank the residents of Belize City because without them I wouldn't even be a council member."
"There were no other nominations besides me. I was nominated by the three term councillor Javier Castellanos who I of course have a great level of respect for. He is one of our senior council members and yeah I was the only nominee in today's election."
